Learning about the endocannabinoid system could be one of the most important things you can for your wellness.

I’ve always been keenly interested in researching health and wellness. Just the mere thought of how our magnificently-made bodies functioned was enough to inspire feelings of wonder and awe. Doctors and scientists have long researched ways to make the human body function optimally, and in the late 1980s, that researched uncovered something absolutely incredible, called the endocannabinoid system.

Yes, I realize that the endocannabinoid system is a mouthful, so from this point on in the article, I will simply refer to it as the ECS. The ECS, in my opinion, is one of the greatest medical discoveries of our time. When I learned through my research that every human being, every animal, and even plants have this system, I was completely intrigued. The more I read, the more deeply I became interested in this “master system” that works with every other system in the body. Although the discovery is relatively recent, I certainly felt that it should have been a major topic of discussion before now.

You may have noticed earlier in the article that I referred to the ECS as the master system. The reason for this bold statement is that the ECS regulates processes in your bodies such as energy intake, nutrient transport, and metabolism storage. It assists the body in entering into homeostasis or balance. It is important to understand that the body naturally contains endocannabinoids. Plants such as cannabis contain what are called phytocannabinoids. The major phytocannabinoids that have been discovered to have the most profound impact on the body are THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol). THC is the cannabinoid that is responsible for psychotropic effects in addition to some health benefits, while CBD has no psychotropic effects at all. This is important for those that want the nutritional benefits of cannabis, but don’t want the high.

The ECS needs support just like our immune system, cardiovascular system and other systems do in order to function optimally. When the body is not given the proper nutrients and hydration, deficiencies occur and the body reacts to these deficiencies by manifesting disease, or like I like to say dis-ease. For example, let's take a look at the common cold. Most people, at the first sign of symptoms, rush to take Vitamin C, Vitamin D or their favorite immune system booster. Through education and medical breakthroughs, we now know what we need to do to shorten the duration of the common cold.

Now that new discoveries are being made every day on how to keep the body in peak condition or return it to homeostasis (balance), it is more important than ever to educate ourselves and take our wellness into our own hands. By learning about potential deficiencies are in our bodies, we can make conscious decisions to do better.

Now, back to the ECS. The term for what happens when we are not feeding the ECS is Clinical Endocannabinoid Deficiency Syndrome. How do you feed the ECS? By making phytocannabinoid rich hemp oil a part of your daily supplemental routine. Phytocannabinoids provide great benefits to the body because the properties of the cannabinoids are anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal, immune system boosting, neuro-protecting and so much more. I invite you to go to your favorite search engine and begin doing your due diligence to see why I’m calling this the overlooked deficiency. At Bellativa, we believe in having the cleanest, organic ingredients available that are as close to nature as it gets. Our Power Boost formula is a great way to feed your ECS and is a great addition to your wellness journey.
